Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember,
and remember more than I have seen.
Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember; and remember more than I have seen.

After spending two years living in Korea, and another one traveling around Asia I felt it was time for something new. I consistantly had friends and other travelers asking me what countries I had visited, surpirsed when my list stopped after Asia. I had done one breif trip to The Netherlands, visiting a friend from High School while she studied abroad, but that was it.
Never had I done the iconic backpacking trip through Europe, no eurail pass, no baguettes in the park, picture perfect landmarks, or crazy hostel stories. Instead I fell in love with Asia, but I often wondered, was it Asia I loved or just travel itself? Back home in Summer of 2015, but not wanting to stay, I decided it was time to find out. The benefit I gained of prolonging my European adventures was that I now had friends scattered across the continent, friends I'd met in my travels through Asia. As I started planning my travels I realized my route was a little scattered, crossing entire countries only to go back in the other direction. Knowing that my plans centered around visiting old friends and meeting a few new ones, I knew the long bus rides would be worth it. Short on time the trip was fast, and really only a sample of what Europe has to offer. I visited eight countries in roughly five weeks, for Europe it was doable, but for me this was way to fast. I got sucked into the "There's so much to see and I want to see it all" mindset, but next time (yes there will be a next time) I'm slowing down and taking my time because my question hasn't been answered, is it travel or Asia that I'm truely in love with? |
